Plain-language summary

1. Who We Are

AI Context Builder ("the Extension", "we", "our") is a Google Chrome browser extension created and operated by Viswanath Sudish, an individual developer based in India.

The Extension helps users save a personal context profile (name, role, current projects, communication preferences, and tech stack) and inject it into AI chat tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity — so users do not have to re-explain their context in every new session.

This Privacy Policy explains what data the Extension collects, where it is stored, how it is used, and what rights you have over it.

2. What Data We Collect

The Extension collects only the data you explicitly type into the profile form. This may include:

What we do NOT collect

3. How and Where Your Data Is Stored

Your profile data is stored exclusively using the Chrome Storage Sync API (chrome.storage.sync), a browser-native storage mechanism built into Google Chrome.

What this means in practice

Important: Because sync storage passes through Google's infrastructure, your data is subject to Google's privacy terms in addition to ours. If you do not want Google to sync your profile data across devices, sign out of your Google account in Chrome or disable Chrome Sync before using the Extension.

Storage limits

Chrome Storage Sync has a built-in quota of 100 KB total and 8 KB per key. The Extension stores only plain text and will not approach these limits under normal use.

4. How Your Data Is Used

Your profile data is used for one purpose only: generating a structured context block that you can inject into an AI tool's chat input field.

Specifically, the Extension:

  1. Reads the profile data you saved from chrome.storage.sync.
  2. Formats it into a compact plain-text block (Compact, Verbose, or XML format — your choice).
  3. On your instruction (via the popup "Inject" button or the floating ⚡ widget), inserts that text into the active input field of a supported AI tool tab.

Your data is not used for:

5. Browser Permissions Explained

The Extension requests the following Chrome permissions. Each is explained in plain language below.

storage

Allows the Extension to read and write your profile data using chrome.storage.sync. Without this permission, the Extension cannot save or load your profile between sessions.

activeTab

Allows the Extension to interact with the currently active browser tab when you click the "Inject into page" button. It is used solely to send your saved context text to the content script running in that tab. It does not grant access to any other tab.

scripting

Allows the Extension to inject the content script into an AI tool tab if the script was not already loaded (for example, when the Extension is installed while the tab is already open). Used only as a fallback mechanism to ensure injection works reliably.

tabs

Allows the Extension to read the URL of the currently active tab. This is used only to check whether the active tab is one of the supported AI tools before attempting injection. The Extension does not read tab titles, content, or history.

Host permissions: chatgpt.com, claude.ai, gemini.google.com, perplexity.ai, www.perplexity.ai

Allows the Extension's content script to run on these five domains. The content script performs two actions only: (1) it creates a small floating button (⚡) visible on the page, and (2) when activated, it finds the chat input field and inserts your saved context text into it. The content script does not read, record, or transmit any content from these pages — including your prompts, AI responses, or conversation history.

6. Data Sharing and Third Parties

We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal data with any third party for any purpose.

The Extension does not include any third-party analytics SDK (such as Google Analytics, Mixpanel, or Amplitude), advertising SDK, or crash reporting service.

The only third party with access to your data

Google — as the operator of Chrome Sync, Google has access to the data stored in chrome.storage.sync as part of its infrastructure. This is not within our control and is governed by Google's own privacy policy. To opt out, disable Chrome Sync in your Google account settings.

Legal disclosures

We may disclose your information if required to do so by applicable law, court order, or regulatory authority. Because we do not collect or store your data on our own servers, we have no data to disclose in practice.

7. Data Retention and Deletion

Your profile data is retained in chrome.storage.sync until you delete it. There is no automatic expiry.

How to delete your data

We have no ability to delete your data on your behalf because we do not have access to it. Only you — via your Chrome browser — can delete it.

8. Security

Security of your data is important to us. The following measures are in place:

Despite these measures, no software system is completely secure. We recommend you do not enter highly sensitive information (passwords, financial data, government ID numbers) into the profile form, as such information is not necessary for the Extension to function.

9. Children's Privacy

The Extension is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or the applicable minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through this Extension, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

10. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights under applicable data protection law, including:

Right How to exercise it
Access — see what data is stored Open the Extension popup. All stored data is visible in the profile form.
Correction — update inaccurate data Edit any field in the popup and click Save.
Deletion — erase all stored data Click Reset in the popup, or clear extension storage in Chrome settings.
Portability — export your data Click "Export .txt" in the popup to download a plain-text copy of your profile.
Objection / Restriction Stop using the Extension and delete your data as described above.

Because all data is stored locally in your browser and we have no access to it, most rights can be exercised directly by you without needing to contact us.

11. Important Notice Regarding Supported AI Tools

The Extension injects text into the input fields of third-party AI services (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity). These are independent services with their own terms of use and privacy policies:

Any text you inject into those tools — including your context profile — becomes subject to those services' own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for how those services handle the content of your messages.

12. Governing Law

This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of India, including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDPA) where applicable. Any disputes arising under this policy shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of India.

If you are located in the European Economic Area, you also have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Given that we do not process personal data on our own infrastructure, the Extension is designed to be GDPR-compliant by default. If you have GDPR-specific concerns, contact us at the address below.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where the changes are material, note them in the Chrome Web Store listing update description.

Continued use of the Extension after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy. If you disagree with any change, you should stop using the Extension and delete your stored data.
